10/7/11 - Front suspension & brakes

Been busy with front suspension and brake hardware…

This stuff takes even longer than I thought.  Every single step involves much more than I would guess.  True of everything I guess.  Went to put on the front lateral to strut rods and ran into this.  Upgrading from rubber to poly bushings all around.  Old setup has this metal cup and rubber bushing.

Put together they look like this…

Unfortunately the new poly bushings are not shaped the same, and the one replacing the above is the full size of both pieces.  No problem you say…  Well, when you put it together, the washer used to ride against the flat side of that metal piece above.  Metal piece no longer in place so now you have….

And sure enough, as you tighten down the nut, the bushing threatens to go right around the washer.  So I had to stop work on that(frustrating) and go find something else to do, until I could get to the hardware store.  Once at the hardware store, turns out I forgot to bring items to compare with, but guessed and got lucky.

Much better, and does not allow poly bushing to deform and get around the washer.

Assembled brake caliper on one side.  Turns out I used the OLD brake disc pads, because they were barely worn and most importantly they had the Celica sensor hardware on them.  No new disc pads come with this, so I cleaned up new pads and installed them.
